Original Pen and Ink Drawing. Extensively inscribed and annotated by the artist. 

Provenance: From the collection of writer, actor and tall person John Cleese, who acquired it from Chris Beetles Gallery in 1986. Cleese signed the gallery label in black marker on the back of frame.

Writing from "As I See Myself" as follows

Born in Wallasey, Cheshire in 1936. Educated at Abergele Grammar School in North Wales. After a succession of false starts and National Service, joined Kensley Northern Papers. Stayed 3 years. Turned freelance and began to appear in Punch and Private Eye and other National Journals. Also illustrates children's books.

More interested in drawing people as types rather than individuals and prefers his cartoons to make a social rather than a political comment. Avoids political bias in fear of becoming involved in its dogma and thus losing his objectivity.

Likes cats, hates dogs, loves children, paints and builds guitars. 

Lives with his wife and two daughters in Putney. Quote "My wife is a hard and excellent critic."
